Lesson one for the day: Do not be nosy unless you are prepared to deal with whatever you might find. Because having that knot in the pit of your stomach - when you have to continue being a functional, pleasant, task-oriented human being really sucks.

Lesson two for the day: Be honest with yourself and your loved one(s). Just because you want to be okay with something doesn't necessarily mean that you are. Denying the problem/ache certainly isn't going to fix it - but oftentimes a little forthright dialogue will go a long way to mending your hurt.

Lesson three for the day: Take a few deep breaths. Oftentimes things which feel like the end of the world are much more akin to stubbing your toe. They hurt like a motherfucker at first and you can't seem to think of anything else - but if you take a little time out to deal with them, to breathe and put life back into perspective, it turns out that they're not such a big deal after all.
